Opening of new facilities
July 19. 2013
We invited the citizens of Grenaa, as well as business partners and friends to come and celebrate the opening of our new 5500 sqm scrapyard and slipway.
To meet the demands for an even more environmental friendly way of scrapping ships, we have rebuilt our facilities completely.
The vice Mayor cut the chain to the new slipway that has installations for collection and separation of polluted water.
Under a 300 mm layer of fiber-enhanced concrete covered with steelplate on the whole area, any rain, seawater and oil spill is collected, separated and waste is taken care of in whatever way necessary.
We had made the hull of the freighter "ISA" ready for towing ashore, and people gathered along the slipway to see it in action.
The large towing winch is ready to prove it's worth
Can it do the job, and will wire and chain hold?
The hull starts moving up the slipway..
..and "ISA" is slowly pulled ashore.
Propeller and rudder leaves the water, and..
60 x 10 m of hull is now ready to be cut into appropriate pieces and sent to recycling.
